226 House Republican Little "Dutch Boys" Try to Hold Back Hispanic Flood

MESA (Editorial by Jon Garrido) July 18, 2004 — It seems most Americans know the story of the Dutch boy who saved the Netherlands from a flood by putting his finger in the dike till help arrived.

Not surprisingly the story is little known in the Netherlands. Any Dutch child could tell you putting your finger in a dike on the verge of breaking is not a smart move. The dike would still break and you would be swept away and drown.

Yesterday, in Washington DC, 226 House Republican little "Dutch Boys" tried to hold back the Hispanic flood but it is too late. In every town and city in the USA, the Hispanic flood can be found and the water gets deeper and deeper with each passing year.

Yesterday, 226 House Republican little "Dutch Boys" approved a measure that does not allow an identification card used by Mexican citizens for opening bank accounts and other purposes in the United States.

The cards, known as "matricula consular,'' are issued by the Mexican government to its citizens living in the United States. It allows cardholders to get driver's licenses in some states, open bank accounts and send money home.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. called the Republican-sponsored measure anti-Hispanic.

These anti-Hispanic measures pushed by House Republicans are red herrings: part of the Republican prime mandate to stop the inflow of Hispanic immigrants from becoming part of the main stream of the American way of life.

Chesapeake Bay in Washington is not the only water where red herring can be found. Even in states with dry river beds like Arizona, the dry Salt River bed is only a few miles away from the state legislature where Goldwater is alive and well as the leader of other anti Hispanic supremacists promoting passage of a state referendum forbidding any person not a US citizen living in Arizona from receiving any state financed benefit.

Another red herring to stop the tide of immigrants crossing into the United States from Mexico.

According to the US Census Bureau in 2097, Hispanics will comprise more than 50% of the total US population. Rather than drown, all "Dutch Boys" living in Washington DC, Phoenix and all other persons with similar feelings should embrace tolerance and learn to live with the Hispanic flood.

The continuation of the Hispanic flood is inevitable and profound. Nothing can stop it.

Even the eight Republican members of Arizona’s congressional delegation say an initiative proposed for the state’s 2004 ballot is too blatant and will greatly diminish Hispanic support now being solicited by those responsible for re-election of the president.

Those that support the initiative are cutting off their noises to spite their faces. But then, typical of the mentality of supremacists who plot hatred at the Arizona capitol.

State Lawmakers Oppose Immigration Initiative

July 18, 2004 (AP) — The eight Republican members of Arizona’s congressional delegation say they share many concerns about illegal immigration but will not support an initiative proposed for the state’s 2004 ballot.

‘‘After careful consideration, we have concluded that the initiative . . . will not solve the problems it seeks to address, and we are concerned that it may, in fact do harm,’’ the Republicans said in a joint statement released on their behalf by U.S. Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz., on Wednesday.

The initiative would impose new requirements to provide evidence of citizenship to register to vote, cast ballots at polling places and obtain government services that are not mandated by the federal government.

The GOP delegation members said they agree that more must be done to secure the border ‘‘and to ensure that Arizonans do not bear the burden of an ineffective immigration policy. But, guarding the border is, and should remain, the responsibility of the federal government.’’

Similar approaches tried in other states have been ruled unconstitutional, the statement said. ‘‘Arizona should stand out as a leader in immigration strategies and reform. It should not pursue efforts that will not achieve results or will repeat the mistakes made by others.’’

Supporters launched the drive with a July 7 filing with the state. They need to collect 122,612 signatures of voters by July 1, 2004, to qualify the measure for the November 2004 ballot.
